Bonjour!
Today, we all moved from our small hotel for the week to our more permanent residence at Cité Universitaire. It's absolutely beautiful! It has its own park, and I now have my own bathroom! Livin' the good life. The park even has swans. Look!
Even though it was great to move to such a nice building and to start our French culture class, which seems like it will be really interesting, the real highlight of the day was dinner, which is why this is full of pics. All 14 of us went out to eat at a café in the Latin Quarter for a 3-course meal. After only having
eaten a salad for my meals before dinner that day, I gobbled almost everything that I was served, except for dessert. In the battle of Man versus Food, food won, but just barely. Here's what I ate.
To start, I had a lovely salad with lardons (like bacon, but a little better because it's French) and toasts with warm goat cheese on top. Delish.
Then, for my plat, I had a yummy steak with fries and greens.
Finally, for dessert, I had a huge cup of chilled chocolate mousse. Well, almost. I could only finish half of the cup. Trust me- I tried! My only desserts in France so far had been crepes and ice cream, so having something fancy and chocolaty was much needed. (Does that sound picky?) It was rich! I meant to take a picture before I took a bite, but I couldn't wait!
The real breakthrough, though, was discovering that I love escargot. That's right- snails are yummy. Another girl ordered them as her appetizer, and I got to try one. Kinda like mussels. I wish I had ordered it. It's also pretty fun to get the snail out of its shell with the fancy tools that the waiter gives you. Now I know for later! Escargot for the win.
Another yummy day in Paris! The food alone makes the trip more than worth it!
